WebThe engine room and boiler house were housed in the east end of the mill. The construction of 'B' Mill followed soon after in 1844, adjoining 'A' Mill to the west and more than doubling the capacity of the works. The two mills were originally known as 'Centre Mills, 1 and 2', but renamed in 1855 with their current letters. WebClough House is believed to have been constructed in 1799 for the Gott family: the house is known to have been standing pre-1840 and above one of the gable windows is a datestone inscribed with the date 1799. By the 1830s it was owned and lived in by John Gott Esq (1764-1840) and his family, a gentleman landowner who owned much of Howden Clough.
